I've bee working on this logo design with SE4ALL for the last few weeks and it is one that has really touched my heart. I have travelled to Malawi on more than one occasion and have some very dear friends in this inspiring and delicate part of the world and I have come to appreciate the challenges faced by many Malawian's. The JUST1? event is bringing awareness to one the major issues faced by 99% of every rural Malawian.
SE4ALL or Sustainable Energy For All is a Non-Profit Organization that supports the development of sustainable energy in remote parts of the world where communities are battling the daily reality of complete and utter darkness. This organization not only provides support in development but fights to eliminate energy poverty!
It's a growing problem internationally. The JUST1? Event is being held April 21st - 24th, 2015 in Malawi to bring awareness to and fight against this global issue.
I have had the opportunity to collaborate with some of these inspiring individuals who believe so strongly in this cause to creatively express through artistic media the need for change.
In Malawi only 1% of the rural population or 1 in 100 persons has access to what the western world depends on for survival - energy! The rest of Malawian civilization lives in utter darkness. When a dark living quarter is briefly lit - it is not due to the luxurious flip of a switch, rather this humble home has become the site of harmful smoke from makeshift lamps that are giving off their amber glow from a number of highly hazardous chemicals, such as kerosine, drained diesel or oil gleaned from vehicle servicing facilities. Directly and indirectly, these dangerous and poisonous products, not excluding carbon monoxide poisoning, cause a number of deaths each year in Malawi.
